Information Systems Program

Newly admitted computing students: Read this Important Notice

The School of Computing offers a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. The program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, . Information Systems students study the development of computer software applications to meet user needs and deliver value to businesses and organizations; thus, the program includes a number of business courses.

The Information Systems curriculum focuses on courses related to application programming, database design, Internet programming technologies, data analytics, and systems analysis and design. Students also study several business administration courses and are required to participate in a two-semester capstone project where they develop software systems for Northeast Florida organizations. Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years of graduation, the School of Computing expects its Information Systems alumni will be in professional situations in which they can:

  1. Apply technical and business knowledge and up-to-date skills in improving and developing processes and information systems to solve problems in business environments and/or pursue an advanced degree in Information Systems, or a related field;
  2. Engage in continuous professional development;
  3. Participate in professional societies of Information Systems or a related field;
  4. Demonstrate leadership in addressing technical and business challenges; and
  5. Commit to the moral imperatives and professional responsibilities expected from practicing professionals.

Student Outcomes (SOs)

Students completing the Information Systems program will achieve the following outcomes related to skills in the discipline, critical thinking, communication, and professional responsibilities. By the time of graduation, the program enables students to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions;
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program's discipline;
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts;
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles;
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program's discipline; and
  6. Support the delivery, use, and management of information systems within an information systems environment.
