MEALS ON WINGS
Launched in 2018 by the 香港六合彩开奖结果2023 Center for Nutrition and Food Security (CNFS), Meals on Wings is a groundbreaking program addressing two pressing challenges in Northeast Florida: food insecurity and food waste. This innovative initiative collaborates with local hospitals (Baptist Health, Brooks Rehab, Ascension, Mayo Clinic, and UF Health) to recover surplus prepared food, transforming it into nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for homebound seniors.
What makes Meals on Wings exceptional is the involvement of student volunteers at every stage of the process—from recovering and repackaging meals to delivering them directly to seniors’ homes in area low-income communities. In a region where food insecurity among older adults is nearly double the national average, with 1 in 7 seniors experiencing hunger and Duval County reporting a 12.6% food insecurity rate, Meals on Wings has a significant impact on local senior citizens.
