Economic Sustainability & Health in Nairobi, Kenya

Now open to graduate students in the Coggin College of Business students!  Applications are open until January 6.

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure with our study abroad program, "Economic Sustainability & Health in Kenya," set for Spring 2025.  Tailored for 香港六合彩开奖结果2023 undergraduate and graduate students, this dynamic course (MAN4956 or ECO4956 or 6000-level MAN or ECO course) is co-taught by the esteemed Dr. Amrita and Dr. Audrieanna Burgin from the Coggin College of Business. Plus, we're thrilled to announce that our third faculty lead, Prof. Katryne Lukens-Bull will be offering a Public Health version of the course. Kicking off with engaging preparatory sessions, our journey culminates in a vibrant, on-the-ground experience in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 2 to May 11, 2025. Picture yourself exploring the heart of Kenya's innovations in energy, technology, and agriculture, all while diving deep into its socio-economic landscape.

This program is designed to empower you as a future global change leader, with a strong focus on sustainability and sustainable development. You'll immerse yourself in Kenya's rich cultural fabric and gain firsthand insights into its role as an emerging economic powerhouse. The course includes lively discussions, interactive site visits, and cultural activities, all contributing to comprehensive written and oral communication assessments. Your journey will be documented through a journal and a powerful post-travel presentation. Essential readings, including development reports and scholarly articles, will provide a solid foundation for your learning. With a strong emphasis on safety, etiquette, and academic integrity, this program promises to be an enriching and transformative experience.

Meeting Dates

Preparatory class meetings take place throughout the Spring 2025 semester.  Meeting days/times will be finalized by November and visible when you register for the 香港六合彩开奖结果2023 course through myWings. 

Courses & Prerequisites

Students choose one of the following courses for the spring semester:

  • MAN4956 (prerequisite = MAN3025 Principles of Management)
  • ECO4956 (prerequisite = any ECO, ECS, or GEO course)
  • MAN6XXX (prerequisite = graduate standing in the Coggin College of Business)
  • ECO6XXX (prerequisite = graduate standing in the Coggin College of Business)

Participants

Up to 20 香港六合彩开奖结果2023 undergraduate students who meet the above prerequisite(s).

Cost

Students pay for three credit hours of 香港六合彩开奖结果2023 Spring 2025 tuition and fees for this study abroad course plus a program fee to cover most travel expenses.  For details on the program fee, contact the faculty leader(s) below.

Planned Visits

Visits planned as part of this study abroad program include the following:

  • promotes culture, arts, and entertainment
  • educates children and visitors on wildlife
  • : provides insight into the famous writer and local history
  • : powers impactful solutions to local issues
  • : facilitates African entrepreneurship
  • : creats natural, local, sustainable products
  • : builds "promise from poverty"
  • : provides education to children in poverty
  • : protects wildlife, such as rhinos, lions, leopards, and zebras

The above visits are tentative until finalized closer to travel dates.

Logistics

Students will be in shared accommodations with breakfast and WiFi.  Travel will mainly take place in 22-seater Coaster buses.  Accommodations, in-country transportation, activities and entrance fees are included in the program fee, along with a few meals.  Students book their own flights with the guidance of the faculty leaders.
